About
Academic Curriculum
Our team of professionals provide core academics in a pragmatic and functional format. Each academic area is addressed in relation to the student’s future success and independence in the real world. For example a math lesson may be centered around creating a shopping list, clipping coupons and then actually going to the market to purchase groceries. We also provide instructions in Science Social Studies, and ELA as well. In addition to core academics, we also provide Adaptive PE, and Health, Fintness and Nutrition classes. We also provide direct instruction in Daily Living Skills, where students have the opportunity to practice skills that will foster their growth and independence such as: Cooking, Sewing, and General Housekeeping. We also offer Career Education classes which not only help the students to identify their interests and abilities but also refine the work behaviors specific to each community job placement.
Vocational Experiences
By establishing “educational partnerships” with local businesses, we are able to offer our students a wide variety of work experiences right in their home community. Students volunteer their time learning and performing different jobs under the supervision of our Certified Job Coaches. In addition to providing and extra set of hands to the business owner, the business becomes an extension of the classroom and means to reinforce academics. Furthermore, employees of the business who work with our students feel elevated to the role of “instructor”. In addition to working in the community, our students also operate a number of “in-house” businesses such as our Swap Shop and Prom Closet; as well as our very successful All Natural Dog Bone business. We also take in “Contract Work” from businesses in the community. These can include: Bulk Mailings; Collations; Assembly projects; etc. Please contact us to discuss how we can assist with your company’s next “big project” or to schedule a presentation on becoming our next “Community Partner”!
Transition Coordination
The B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Program also provides comprehensive services around all aspects of transition. This includes referral to appropriate services and agencies, as well as application/coordination of benefits through OMRDD, Social Security, VESID, Medicaid, etc. Each student also receives a complete Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation.
